Air Asia the budget cost
airlines of Malaysia will start its operation in domestic market in India soon
and will offer the tickets as low as 1000 rupees per person. These tickets will
be available for advance booking before a month. Air Asia has developed a joint
venture with Tata group recently to operate in the domestic market in India.
Air Asia is the low cost
budget airlines which is very successful in south East Asia. It has own plan
for the domestic sector in India. According to officials of Air Asia, the
carrier will avoid the metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai route because flying
to these cities cost more due to airport charges.
The carrier will focus
more on smaller cities and southern metros like Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore,
Jaipur and Ahmedabad.
This is quite strange as
Delhi-Mumbai route is the most demanding route as there are more passengers in
this route compare to any other. But flying to this route may cost 25% higher
than any other airport. Officials said that they will apply for PAN-India
license and not regional. Air Asia will
fly where the cost of operations are low.
The experience of Air Asia
in Indian market is not very good till now. It stopped the flights of
Delhi-Bangkok route due to compitition whereas the competitor Indigo has
doubled the flights on this route.
Air Asia officials says
that airlines companies should come together for resolving the issue of high
cost airports. The second thing is that Indian customers will pay in INR (Indian
national rupee) which also make the difference for the airline.

growing domestic market.
